As he and his daughter Kathryn (photo above left), made the Wall Rubbing of,
“45E 006, Benji Yamane,” it dawned on him that Yamane and the over 100 of his
buddies from his battalion who died were calling him.  They wanted him to tell their
story.  To teach the lessons of war and who better than him?  At that moment he
made the decision to dedicate the rest of his life to them.  To the KIAs on the Wall.

Father’s Day June 26, 1993:  The tour would take him across the heartland of
America, the land he and his fellow veterans had fought for.  The long hours of the
tour gave him time to reflect upon his life.  The question was, “Would he really be
able to walk away from his heritage of Brown’s Fried Chicken?”
November 1993:  He left the company that had
betrayed him.  He walked away from the fast-
food industry in which he and his family had
been pioneers.  An industry which he had
contributed 40 years of his life.  The last Mr.
Brown of Brown’s Fried Chicken family was
gone to the cheers of the franchise.
